Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) organisation is an attached office of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and is headed by Director General of Foreign Trade. Right from its inception till 1991, when liberalization in the economic policies of the Government took place, this organization has been essentially involved in the regulation and promotion of foreign trade through regulation. Keeping in line with liberalization and globalization and the overall objective of increasing of exports, DGFT has since been assigned the role of “facilitator”. The shift was from prohibition and control of imports/exports to promotion and facilitation of exports/imports, keeping in view the interests of the country.
DGFT will launch a new digital platform on July 13 the first stage of which will cater to the services related to the issuance of Import-Export Code(IEC), modifications, amendment process along with a chatbot.
The IEC is compulsory for companies and businesses to commence a business that deals with import and export.
The platform is intended to help traders electronically to file their applications connected to IEC.
Different exports schemes such as Advance Authoraisation and Export Promotion Capital Goods,watching the status of the application and raising enquiries among other code services related to the foreign trade policy.
The user will be able to monitor the status of the application and the pending obligations thereof. These numorous featues should significantly benefit the trade community.
