DGFT Extended the Date for IEC Renewal to 31 August, 2021
Key Points of the notification:
- Date for IEC code renewal/ updation extends to 31.08.2021.
- No fee shall be charged on modifications carried out in IEC during the period upto 31st August, 2021.
The DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) extended the date for Importer Exporter Code updation/ modification from 31 July 2021 to 31 August 2021. Earlier all IEC holders needed to update/modify their IEC license till 31 July 2021. However, DGFT made the compulsion, this year on 12 February to update all IEC licenses even if no updates were done.
Import Export Code is a ten-digit unique code assigned to an individual/company and is required for every import/export operation. The DGFT is in charge of issuing import export codes. DGFT stands for Director General of Foreign Trade. Importer Exporter Code is the full form of IEC, although it is more commonly known as import export code.
The DGFT issued the extension notification in continuance of the notification dated 12 February, 2021, so as to inform that the last date to update or modify the IEC is extended upto 31 August 2021.
Since the official government website was also facing server issues for the last few days. This notification will help all those who have faced problems due to the website’s downtime. It is a big relief to all those who were unable to renew/update their IEC code before the deadline.

They furthermore have mentioned, “Period of modification of IEC is extended for the year 2021-22 only till 31.08.2021, and no fees shall be charged on modifications carried out in IEC during the period up to 31st August, 2021.”
