To import pre-packaged goods, traders, producers, importers, and commercial packers must first get the LMPC Registration. An application for theLMPC Certificate must be submitted in its entirety to either the controller of legal metrology or the director of legal metrology in the federal government. By reducing unethical business practices, the LMPC Certificate aims to increase consumer awareness. Sanctions may be applied if any of the mandatory declarations that must be made on the products are violated.
For the purpose of importing pre-packaged goods and instruments, a manufacturer, packer, or importer must certify that national legal metrology standards and regulations are adhered to by obtaining an LMPC Certificate. The LMPC full form is a legal Metrology Packaged Commodities certificate.

Pre-packed goods are defined as commodities that have already undergone a specific type of packaging prior to being sold to customers. Usually packaged by the maker or manufacturer, these products are ready to be sold right out of the box; the merchant doesn't need to do any additional handling or packaging. Prior to beginning the import, the importer must get the LMPC Certificate. With the completion of the application form, providing the required documentation, and having the property inspected, an LMPC Certificate may be obtained. Within 90 days from initiation of the import. There are fines of up to Rs.25,000 and a six-month sentence in jail. In 7 to 10 days, the registration process is finished. The goals of the LMPC Certificate are consumer interest protection and transparency.
