Who are Startups as per DPIIT?

As per the Department for promotion of Industry & Internal trade (DPIIT), the classification of startups is done in the following categories.

Eligibility criteria for startup

1. Originality:- Originality requires not establishing the entity by bifurcating an existing entity to qualify for DPIIT registration.

2. Entities type:-The business entity must be registered under the companies act 2013 as one of the following entity types.

  • Pvt Ltd Company
  • Partnership Firm
  • One person Company
  • Limited Liability Partnership

3. Turnover of the company:- The annual turnover of the company shall not be more than 100 crore rupees for any calendar year since its incorporation date.

4. Existence period of the company:- The existence period of the entity should be more than 10 years from the day of incorporation.

5. Innovation and the scalable entity:- The essential aspect of any business is whether the idea is scalable or innovative. Scalability & innovation are important factors for businesses, and DPIIT pays attention to them before recognizing new businesses under startup India recognition.

Process for Startup India recognition under DPIIT

1. Incorporation of the business

Before applying for Startup India recognition, the applicant must determine whether or not they are qualified. Their firm must be established as a legal business entity per the company registration act in the following category.

2. Creation of a profile on the startup India portal
