LMPC Certificate is mandatory for the importer who is engaged in selling and distribution of pre-packaged commodities. LMPC Certificate is also known as Importer Licence. Application of the LMPC Certificate is made to the controller of legal metrology. The application is made to the state's Controller of Legal Metrology. LMPC Certificate makes sure that all information is disclosed for the protection of the consumer from any fraudulent practice and to increase the credibility of the product by ensuring weight, freshness, or safety is preserved.

Declarations to be made in the LMPC certificate for import
The importer must provide mandatory declarations in compliance with the 2011-released Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity (LMPC) certificate requirements before the import procedure can commence.
For LMPC Registration the government fee is Rs.500 and the professional fee is 4499/-. LMPC Certificate is granted after inspection by the registration authorities. It takes 7-10 days to complete the process.

If LMPC Rules are not followed by the importer then goods and services are stopped at the customs. Analysis of every document is very important prior to application filling and so that penalty can be avoided. There is a procedure that needs to be followed to get the LMPC Certificate. If LMPC Certificate is not acquired within the 90days then the importer will be penalised. It will be valid for one to five years.
