Import export code or IEC is a ten digit identification number that is issued by DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), Department of Commerce, Government of India and possesses a lifetime validity. It is also known as Importer and exporter code. IEC code helps a person make import and export of goods legally. It is required for the persons engaged in business of import and export of goods. Importer cannot import goods without having a valid IEC code and also the exporter cannot avail the export scheme benefit available from DGFT without having proper IEC code.
The following are the documents required for IEC Code registration:
1. PAN details
2. Scanned copy of sale deed, rental/lease deed, electricity/phone bill/ Aadhaar Card copy for address verification
3. Email id and mobile number for communication purpose.
4. Scanned copy of Cancelled Cheque with Entity’s or Individual’s name pre-printed on it OR he should have Bankers Certificate in the prescribed format.
5. Net Banking account or Debit/Credit card for Online payment of Government Fees of Rs. 500/-
Click on “Service” and select IEC tab and select Online IEC application
After step 1 below screen will be show up which will ask the PAN of the applicant
Enter the PAN number and click on “Search”
In the next step the applicant has to fill the PAN details like Name as per PAN card and Date of birth as per PAN card
Note: The applicant must provide correct details as per PAN card else the application will not move forward until correct details are provided
After the details are been provided enter the captcha and click on “Submit” button
The next screen will show confirmation of PAN number as below:
Click on “Next” button below screen will appear
In the next step fill the contact details, enter captcha and Click on “Generate OTP”
In next you be asked the OTP sent on mobile and mail ID. Enter the OTP and click on “Submit” button
After the OTP has been submitted below form will appear which will the following details:
1. Entity Details
2. Branch Details
3. Proprietor/Director/Partner details
4. Upload documents
5. Fee payment
6. Verification
7. Preview and Print application
8. Submission of application
1. Enter the Entity Details
The 1st step includes entering of entity details of the applicant it requires the following details:
a. Applicant’s Entity Name
b. Entity address, city, state, district and Pin code
c. Nature of concern (whether proprietor, company or firm)
d. Select one of the preferred activity which includes the following:
1. Merchant exporter
1. Manufacturer exporter
1. Merchant cum manufacturer exporter
1. Service provider
1. Merchant cum Manufacturer cum service provider
2. Others and specify the same in the given box
1. Bank account number
2. Account holder number
3. Bank Name
4. Branch Name
5. IFSC code in uppercase
After the Entity details are filled. Click on “Branch details Tab” for entering branch details of the entity which includes following:
a. Address of Branch
1. State, City District and Pincode
After the branch details are filled. Click on “Director/Partner details Tab” for entering Proprietor/Director/Partner details of the entity which includes following:
1. Name of the Proprietor/Director/Partner
2. PAN of the Proprietor/Director/Partner
3. Name as per PAN
4. Date of Birth of the Proprietor/Director/Partner
5. Address of the Proprietor/Director/Partner
6. Mobile no the Proprietor/Director/Partner
7. Aadhaar no of the Proprietor/Director/Partner
After the Proprietor/Director/Partner details are filled. Click on “Upload documents Tab” for uploading document proof of the entity which includes following:
a. Address proof like sale deed or Rent agreement or lease deed or electricity bill or telephone bill or Mobile postpaid bill or Partnership deed, in case of proprietorship Aadhaar card/ passport or voter id is valid for address proof.
b. Where the address proof is in the name of other person then NOC of such person required. Such No Objection certificate shall be submitted along with the address proof.
c. Bank certificate in prescribed format or Cancelled Cheque of the entity

Note:
In the next step click on “Fee Payment” tab here the applicant has to pay the prescribed fees which is Rs. 500 which needs to be paid online through net banking.
After successfully completing the payment come back to the same Page. Choose “Verify Pay” and verify the payment which you have just made
After you have done all the above steps the applicant has to preview and print the application. You can print this application for your official purposes. Here all the details you have filled in will be displayed for checking. If you want to change any details you can go back and make the necessary changes.
This is the final step, in this the above-mentioned E-com number will be displayed along with the concerned DGFT Office which will be auto-selected and displayed accordingly. Click on proceed further. After this, a new page will open which will have a “Submit and Generate IEC Certificate”.
